Children's Dentistry in Arvada CO

Children's Dentistry in Arvada COAt Generations Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, providing high-quality, compassionate dental care to every member of your family is our mission—and we mean every member of your family, all the way down to the youngest.

Giving kids a great introduction to dental care is truly one of the most important things we do here in our Arvada dental office. Dental anxiety is a huge problem in our society and it keeps far too many people from getting the care they need. When kids can learn from an early age that dentistry isn’t scary and that dentists are actually fun, friendly, and kind, they can take that knowledge with them as they grow up.

Our office has a homelike atmosphere, which is great for helping your child feel at ease. We provide personalized care to every patient, including the littlest ones. Getting to know your child and customizing their treatment to fit their comfort level helps your child feel more confident. Parents are often surprised to find out that their kids actually look forward to their dental appointments with us!

When Should My Child Start Seeing a Dentist?

We agree with the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Children should start seeing the dentist when their first tooth comes in or by their first birthday. Starting early means that we can track your child’s dental development from the get-go and be on the lookout for any concerning issues. If we do spot any problems, we can head them off early, which usually allows for more conservative (and less costly) treatment.

Arvada CO Children's Dentistry How Do You Help Kids Feel Comfortable?

One of the most important ways is by seeing your kids from the start. This normalizes dental care so that your child won’t even think twice about it.

If your child is a bit older, we’ll help them feel comfortable in our office by taking them for a tour. This helps to satisfy their natural curiosity and also helps to reduce the fear of the unknown. We know that dental instruments can look scary, so we’ll show our instruments to your child and explain how they are used. Your child will even be allowed to touch the instruments when appropriate!

We want your kids to be involved in their own dental care. We’ll use language that they can understand and that isn’t scary and we’ll make sure to explain anything that could be confusing. Questions are encouraged and we’ll make sure that both you and your child have the answers you need to make decisions.

Dental Care for All Ages and Stages

Kids aren’t just “little adults.” Their mouths are constantly undergoing growth and change. We recognize and understand these differences so that we can provide appropriate care at all levels, from infant to teenager. Dr. Lindsay Compton has plenty of experience when it comes to treating kids and has a gentle approach that families love.

We can’t wait to meet you and your kids. Give us a call today to schedule your child’s appointment and let us know if you have any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

We agree with the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics that children should see a dentist when their first tooth comes in or when they reach the age of one, whichever comes first.

These early visits are important for a few reasons:

  • They establish the dentist’s office as a familiar and safe place early on in life.
  • They give you and Dr. Compton the opportunity to discuss your child’s health before any problems develop so that we can hopefully head them off.
  • They give us early insight into your child’s development so that we can have a complete record as they grow.

Your child and Dr. Compton will have the opportunity to develop a trust-based relationship. Dental anxiety is a huge problem among adults and we believe that establishing this trust early on in life helps to reduce fear and make it more likely that your child will stick with good health habits throughout life.

Many dental problems start early on and it helps us to know a child’s history. Is your family prone to cavities and gum disease? Does your child use a pacifier or suck his or her thumb? Has your child ever had a dental injury? This information will help guide our care later on in your child’s life.
